Teresa - an excellent move from a historian's point of view. Thank you.

By the way: as I am no web/technology fundi, may I ask if there is a possiblity that all the material on papal forums may one day be lost?

You and others are keeping record of an entire papacy and its reception by the global world today. It is a tremendous source of info and records for historic research, now or later. How can it be preserved?

Someone told me about a web "cloud" where these electronic documentation could be saved for future reference. You work hard to document this papacy. How permanent is all this in terms of the future? (The world famous library in Alexandria lost all/most of its millions of scrolls from antiquity. Something still regarded as a terrible tragedy by anyone with an ounce of historic sense, as you well know!)

Dear Crotchet - Sorry to respond so late. My early 2011 PC problems distracted me from updating this new feature as I should have.

Thanks for bringing up the question of how to save Forum entries. I must ask Gloria to find out from the Forum host, leonardo.it. I know I have been saving our office files and my own personal files on an online server wghich automatically saves everything on the PC daily, so there mustbe something similar for host servers.

I don't think enough people have thought far enough as to how to save everything that is now in cyber-memory. Like what happens, for instance, if some catastrophe resulted in a worldwide failure of the entire Internet system?. Even if one somehow saved one's output on one's own PC, none of the links would work!

I can see myself for instance just copying out every entry I've ever posted onto a WORD document on my PC, but the photo links would not work in case of an Internet failure since they are all to online photo hosts (although of course, the original photos uploaded to that host are in my PC)...

At the same time, I could print out each post I make and preserve a running paper file of it, which I ought to have done from the very beginning!... Indeed, you've opened a very productive vein of thought. Thanks...

TERESA
